| BPO or Business Process Outsourcing
means transferring an entire business
operation of a company to be managed by
another company mainly in global low cost
locations. BPO is the process of hiring
another company to handle business activities
for you. A company may use BPO because
of cost considerations, or simply because
they do not have the expertise or resources
to handle the process in-house.
Reason for sudden growth of
BPO companies in India: The
main reasons for this include lower
salaries in India and availability of
skilled English speaking graduates compared
to those in the western world. Therefore,
you can see the mushrooming of BPO companies
in India within a short span of time.
By outsourcing business to countries
like India, the companies in the west
can generate larger profits. Initially
BPO consisted of outsourcing processes
such as customer support and technical
support. Over the years it grew to include
human resources functions, payroll,
employee benefits management, financial
and administration processes, call center
and customer service activities, accounting
and legal activities, data processing,
and a lot more knowledge-based processes.
Job Scene: There is
definitely an enormous growth in this
industry as you can see the number of
companies, mostly the big wigs setting
up their branches all over India. So
you can expect huge number of vacancies
in all the fields. There is a job for
everyone, you can prove yourself as
a simple agent, team leader, or become
manager of a process. You can also get
into training, quality management, or
any other support functions like administration,
finance, IT infrastructure management,
security, network management, communications
management, etc.
As you climb the ladder of success
in the company, you could be promoted
to head of process and then to head
of call centre operations. It is very
challenging to work in a BPO and you
must be prepared for working in flexible
shifts as per the timings of the region
you are serving. If this doesn’t
suit you, the morning working hours
is always open to be explored. If you
like making friends and having fun then
BPO jobs would be good for you.
There are various career opportunities
within BPO companies and it all depends
on your interest, aptitude, skills and
the positions available. There are jobs
for team leaders or supervisors; quality
controllers; voice or accent trainers;
account managers; project managers;
human resource executives; network administrators,
system administrators, sales, marketing,
etc.
When you attend an interview, make
sure your verbal skills are powerful.
Good communication and language skills,
accent understanding, teamwork, basic
computing skills, firm grasp of English
language, and analytical skills are
must.
Pay Package: The salary
scene in Indian BPO companies has always
been good. A fresher in this field earns
about Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 per month.
•
Customer care representatives can expect
Rs. 8,000 – Rs. 15,000 per month
