Learn a language and earn a fortune with translation as your career

An addition of foreign language skills in your resume can take you places. You might have studied French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Korean or any of the foreign languages in your school. But not many knew it could be your career one day. The time has come now to make the best use of this opportunity with the bigwigs from all over the world investing in India. You name any industry, there seems to be a branch in India. The need for translation of many foreign languages is the need of the hour.

Translation can be a promising career, wherein you can either take it as a full-time vocation or as a supplement to your writing jobs.

 
Getting started as a translator

If you aspire to be a translator, first of all, you need to know a language or two. There are lots of institutions and schools, which provide training in foreign languages like French, German, Japanese, Spanish, etc. You need not panic as you don't have to be a native Japanese speaker or fluent in Arabic to start translating. Like all professions particularly writing, takes time to learn both the technique and the trade. Let’s assume for example that you are at ease with reading general texts in a certain language. Now you have a choice, wherein you can take a course of some kind, or you can try to gain professional experience and make this your career. You could go to educate yourself with a post-graduation in the language of your choice. If you want to pursue a career in translating commercial texts, you could specialize in learning not just one language but many.

Skills required to become a translator
Good communication skills, patience, attention to detail, expression, and composition are the most important basic skills necessary for a career in translation. There are many language schools from where you can get trained or you can utilize the knowledge you have acquired in your school and college. For this you would have to just upgrade on the subject and practice a bit more to make it as your career. a
 
Institutions in India that provide training in translation
There are lots of institutions that provide training and diploma/graduation courses in foreign languages. Courses in foreign languages like French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Tibetan, Persian and English are commonly available in India. There are many independent schools of languages that teach a particular language or if you are keen to learn more than one you can enroll yourself for many languages. The Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, IGNOU, Delhi University, Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages, Hyderabad, and many other institutes all over the country provide good training in the foreign languages. Remuneration in translation
You will love the wonderful payments you will get at the end of the month, if you are freelancer then the payment is immediate, i.e., once your finish your job. In translation, each word is worth its weight in gold! It’s like you will have enough for a month by working for two days. All this depends on your ability to render the job as per the stipulated time and with marked accuracy.

The rate of translation starts from Rs.3 per word. A professional freelance translator can up to Rs.1000 per day. This again depends on your educational qualification and your experience. If you are employed as a salaried person in a company you starting pay package may vary from 15,000 to 18,000 per month.
